At Herbert Smith Freehills, we embrace a problem-solving attitude – for our clients and ourselves – and from innovation and a globally coordinated approach, deliver top tier insights and solutions. This means we celebrate thinkers who have a firm grasp of the past and present, but with an eye to the future.
Our Financial Services Regulatory Team implements this vision: we're a global team of experts within Herbert Smith Freehills who are dedicated to solving complex legal problems for our clients in the financial regulatory space around the world. We're lawyers but we're also problem solvers, researchers, writers, and philosophers. We value diversity of thought and acquire cutting edge skills and bring new ideas to maturity so that our clients can receive advice from the vanguard.
The Financial Services Regulatory Job Simulation gives you the opportunity to work on some of the technical problems that we tackle on a daily basis. You will learn about financial regulatory issues across various jurisdictions, what you need to do to notify regulators, how to prepare your client in the face of regulatory intervention, and how lawyers and clients work together to commercially approach the market when financial regulatory issues arise.
The tasks in these modules are challenging and that reflects the nature of the work that we do in the Financial Services Regulatory Group. In real life, you would have the opportunity to discuss the issues with your supervisor and other colleagues so you would not be tackling the tasks alone.
We also appreciate that you will have different levels of experience and knowledge and that some of you will not have studied law – that is not a problem; all of the tasks (whether involving legal issues or not) can be tackled by applying general analysis and critical thinking skills. We have included some brief notes on some of the key legal concepts that do come up in the tasks or model answers.
If this sounds interesting to you, then participate in our Job Simulation: we would love to hear from you.
